Timeless Goals

Written by

In one of the chapters of my book, “The Main Meal: The New Perspective on Weight Loss,” I explained that I had to learn to get away from setting a goal to lose X number of pounds by a certain date. In order to get away from continually setting myself up for failure, I chose to set no time limits at all for when I would lose weight.

Have you set a goal and achieved it? Have you set a goal and not gotten close to it? Have you set a goal and partially achieved it? Have you set a deadline with those goals and how did that work out for you?

When we’re thinking about our goals, weight related or non-weight related, it’s important to keep our focus on the ‘now’ moment. What am I doing, what am I choosing, right now that helps me achieve my goals? Are my actions, choices, inactions, thoughts, feelings, supporting my end desires? Thinking about what I’m going to do tomorrow effectively sets up a delay in achieving my goal.

Regardless of the goal, whether it’s short-term or long-term, the key is to stay present to it. We can only work it in the present. It’s so much easier to stay motivated if we are only cheering ourselves on for one ‘now’ moment at a time. By bringing our gratitude and joy into each moment, 6 months, a year, or two years pass in the blink of an eye, in ‘no time’ because it’s all happening in our thoughts, in our hearts, and in our bodies, right now.
