“Work-Out” Side the Box

The underlying basis of The Main Meal Weight Management Support is to help us find our joy. Everything we do, every change we make, every habit we continue, and every new habit we form is done to move us further on our journey to self-esteem, happiness, loving our bodies, and embracing our beautiful selves.

Along with changes in attitude toward ourselves, we are surely trying to make changes in our physical bodies and in our physical habits. We can integrate those two levels of change so they are mutually beneficial to us.

A simple example would be my resistance to exercise. I found it hard, as a working person, to give up time in my day to exercise, particularly since I didn’t like to exercise. I was always on the go in my car, commuting to work, grocery shopping, etc. But I love to walk. I made the decision to put my love of walking together with a change in attitude toward exercise. I began to park as far away from any building I was going into so I could get in some extra steps.

The idea here is to get the creative juices flowing. The sillier we get and the more we can laugh at ourselves, the more likely we are to find a way to quit “fighting or struggling with our weight” and instead start embracing our lives, our habits, our bodies and our desires.

Another example was related specifically to the word “exercise.” I was talking about who the “perfect Betty” would have been rather than the imperfect Betty I feel like I am. I said she would have exercised her voice in standing up for what she truly desired rather than having allowed other people to direct her life and her life’s choices for so many years. When I heard myself say ‘exercise my right to speak up for myself’ it put a whole new spin on my life-long resistance to physical exercise.

The awareness was so joyful and the experience was so freeing that I felt lighter. I could have floated to the ceiling in those moments. And that’s what having fun does for us. We gain the insights and the freedoms we desire the most.
